Salary Range 
Craftsman Level Positions: $19.50 - $30.00 Hourly ****UPDATED WAGES****

Reports to 
Superintendent / Foreman

Summary / Objective 
Craftsman 2 performs a variety of carpenter and/or concrete finisher tasks involving physical labor at small and large concrete construction projects. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools, clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist or lead other craftsman tier workers. 

Essential Functions

  1. Must be able to perform most of the Craftsman 1 Essential Functions.

  2. Place concrete in place with the operation of concrete buggy. 

  3. Perform materials handling with the operation of skid loader. 

  4. Loads and unloads trucks. Qualified to operate telehandler to haul and hoist materials. 

  5. Prepare the layout of the project by setting up laser off benchmark for grade points.

  6. Estimate height, width, length, and other proportions.  Understand measurements in tenths and inches.

  7. Basic understanding of structural and rebar blueprints reading.

  8. Can perform job site layout from established points.

  9. Ability to set Symons forms in place and on-grade forms.

  10. Build wood forms for pouring concrete.

  11. Ability to build wall bracing and use turn buckles.

  12. Work on ladders, scaffolding, and machinery.

  13. Check work in process to verify it meets plans and specifications. Use transit, smart level,   total station, or other surveying equipment to double check everything is level and secure.

  14. Erect scaffolding.

  15. Awareness of material and fasteners supply needs on site and keep supervisor informed of restock needs before crew runs out. 

  16. Set anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills and other embeds.

  17. Owns the proper tools for the task being assigned and keeps them on their tool belt.

  18. Owns mag, wood, and steel trowels along with edger and margin trowel.

  19. Ability to roll curbs, and perform edging work correctly.

  20. Qualified to operate all concrete saws.

  21. Can operate a walk-behind power trowel.

  22. Capable of finishing exterior (broom finish) flatwork.

  23. Pre-plans tool needs after being given work directions for the day.

  24. Qualified to operate a mini-excavator.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position usually has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works in environmental conditions that include inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and exposure to dust and concrete. 

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts heavy objects, walks, and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects, uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue, and effectively walks, climbs, or moves objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. 

Expected Hours of Work
Working days can be variable due to weather conditions and client requirements.  This position frequently requires long hours, weekend work, and overtime may be required.

Travel
Travel is primarily within RJ Tide’s normal area of operation; however, some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required. 

Required Education and Experience 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the construction industry with a commercial general contractor or concrete subcontractor.
  • Proficiency with the tools and equipment of the concrete trade. 


Preferred Education and Experience

  • GED or High School Diploma

  • Current OSHA 10hr Certification (qualified new hires may complete as part of RJT Employment).

  • Current 1st Aid and CPR Certification (qualified new hires may complete as part of RJT Employment).

  • A demonstrated understanding of concrete construction means and methods associated with the renovation and construction of commercial and institutional buildings and associated sitework.

  • The ability to effectively communicate both in English, both written and spoken word.

  • The ability to read and understand Blueprints Drawings.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
